Biography

Dr Dirk Herbst is a Prosthodontist in private practice in Brooklyn Pretoria, specializing in cosmetic, implant and restorative dentistry and has a special interest in facial aesthetics, creative smile reconstructions and occlusal reconstruction. 

​

Dr Dirk Herbst holds a Senior Specialist position at the University of Pretoria, School of Dentistry as a part-time consultant.  He is involved in the training of Prosthodontist post graduate students, research and act as External Examiner at all the Dental Schools in SA as well as the College of Dentistry of SA. 

A Prosthodontist is a specialist dentist and expert in treating and restoring all dental problems utilizing dental implants with highly aesthetic porcelains.

Treatment includes dental implants, crown and bridge work, dentures and cosmetic treatments such as veneers, tooth whitening and creative smiles designs.    

Our clinic is situated in Brooklyn Pretoria. 

Education & Training

  • Dr Herbst obtained the BSc degree (Genetics) in 1984.

   

  • Dr Herbst qualified as dentist at University of Pretoria BChD, 1991.

  • Qualified as a Prosthodontist, MChD, Cum Laude, University of Pretoria 1996.

  • Was rewarded Academic Honours, University of Pretoria for outstanding Academic achievement while specialising.

  • Obtain Specialist qualification FCD (SA), Cum Laude from College of Dentistry of SA.

  • Was Awarded Fellowship of the College of Dentistry of SA.

​​

  • Dr Herbst is in Private Specialist Practice in Pretoria since 1997.

​​

  • Dr Herbst holds the position of Senior Specialist at the University of Pretoria, School of Dentistry, and Faculty of Health Science.  This position is on a Part time basis as Coordinator, Supervisor and Internal Examiner of all Registrars Specialising in Prosthodontics.   Dr Herbst holds this Academic position since 1997.   All of the younger Prosthodontists in Pretoria region has qualified under his supervision. 

 

  • Dr Herbst acts as External Examiner at all the other Dental Schools Post Graduate Clinics in SA, e.g. University of Witwatersrand, University of Western Cape and University of Medunsa

  • Dr Herbst has lectured at dental and prosthodontic related Congresses Nationally.

  • Dr Herbst has published as Author and Co-author in local and International Prosthodontic and Dental Journals.

  • Dr Herbst is involved in Research Projects at the University of Pretoria in the field of Prosthodontics and Implantology. 

 

Dirk is married to Tessie (PhD, Psychologist) and has three sons Wilhelm (Medical Doctor), Christi (Industrial Engineer) and Dirk (Medical Student)
